ANNOUNCEMENTS

MARK THE DATE: Fall 2010 Conference is November 7 - 10, 2010 at The Mills House in Charleston, SC.  View the Conference Co-Chairs' Invitation to Charleston, the Conference Schedule, the Registration Form, and the Golf Registration FormNEW: Register Online.  You can complete and file your Registration, but you cannot pay the costs.  NCPJ will send you an invoice for the costs.  To be eligible for the "early bird" reduced fee, your payment, as well as the registration, must be postmarked by September 1, 2010.

MARK THE DATE: Spring 2011 Conference will be May 10 - 15, 2011 at the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans, LA.

MARK THE DATE: Fall 2011 Conference will be November 2 - 5, 2011at The Jekyll Island Club Hotel on Jekyll Island, GA.

The Spring 2010 Conference was May 11 - 16, 2010 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Portland, Oregon.  Great programs and location!  Program materials will be posted soon.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: NCPJ has been selected by the American Bar Association to assist in a ground-breaking effort to learn about guardianships in our country.  Your court will be an important participant.   You will soon be receiving additional requests – these will be important to your court as you go to your funding agencies with budget requests.   For more information about the project, click here

AARP working with Lori Stiegel and Ellen Klem of the ABA has published a report entitled "Power of Attorney Abuse; What States Can Do About It.The report describes power of attorney abuse, analyzes the recent Uniform Power of Attorney Act (UPOAA), and provides a report card of sorts on current state laws on powers of attorney.

AARP has also published a report by Naomi Karp of AARP and Erica Wood of the ABA entitled: "Guarding the Guardians: Promising Practices for Court Monitoring."
