It was thrilling to see so many of you at the 2022 NCPJ Spring Conference in Colorado Springs this past May. We are excited to see you at the upcoming 2022 NCPJ Fall Conference being held at the stunning Henderson Beach Resort in Destin, Florida, November 15 – 18, 2022. The College is dedicated to providing a safe conference this fall utilizing COVID protocols. Amongst the warm climate and beautiful beaches, Florida is famously known as the Sunshine State. It’s sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and lush vegetation make it a popular vacation destination. Beautiful Destin is proudly known as “the world’s luckiest fishing village” because the edge of the Continental Shelf, which is just 20 miles offshore, serves as the gathering place for blackfin tuna, grouper, amberjack, and king mackerel. We proudly invite you to save the dates of November 15 through November 18 and join us for our Fall 2022 NCPJ Conference at the impeccable Henderson Beach Resort (hendersonbeachresort.com). This spectacular resort looks out onto the ever-glowing Gulf of Mexico and offers a wide variety of amenities. Our current NCPJ President, Judge James P. Dunleavy is most anxious to greet everyone at the Luau themed Welcome Reception which will commence on Tuesday evening, November 15 at 6:00 p.m. for all members. The educational sessions will be held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings, ending mid-day. We have locked in extremely gracious group rates for our NCPJ members who register for this important probate conference being held in the Sunshine State. In addition to registering, registrants who attend the conference will earn CLE credit, thereby combining professional advancement concurrently with an enjoyable cultural and breathtaking environmental experience.
AGENDA: Judges Brenda Thompson and Heather Galvin have assembled an extremely informative and enjoyable program for our fall conference. On Wednesday, November 16, the agenda consists of an educational presentation by Ms. Sherri Cloud, Director of Crisis Intervention Training, National Alliance on Mental Illness in South Carolina, on Crisis Intervention in Emergent Situations. In addition, the Honorable Henry C. Callaway, III, the Honorable Karen Specie, and the Honorable Don Davis will present on the Intersection between Probate and Bankruptcy. On, Thursday, November 17, we will start our day with a NCPJ Business meeting at 8:00 a.m., followed by an interactive program consisting of a range of topics being presented by The Honorable John Browning, “ Don’t Be ‘Socially’ Unacceptable: Social Media Ethical Pitfalls for Probate Judges”, as well as a presentation from Sha’Ron James, Esq., Gunster, and Harriet W. Williams, Esq., Williams Law Group on Pathways to Diversity & Inclusion in the Court. This season’s Banquet be held on Thursday, November 17 and we will hold the highly anticipated inauguration of Judge Dianne Yamin as President. Please dress in business attire for this wonderful event. On Friday morning, November 18, we will begin our morning with an informative presentation about Financial Planning Insights for Guardianships and Conservatorships by Mr. R. Hugh McGill, from National College of Probate Judges Northern Trust Company, followed by Amy B. Beller, Esq., of Beller Smith, who will inform us on Trust and Estates Mediation. This exciting conference will conclude with a knowledgeable presentation on Guardianship Reform by Attorney Deborah J. Tedford, Professor Mary Radford, and Anthony Palmieri. 2022 Fall NCPJ Conference Agenda
REGISTRATION: The conference registration fee is $400 for members if received by October 15, and $450.00 after that date. The fee for retired judges is $200.00. The registration fee includes all conference materials, the welcome reception and final reception/banquet. The fee for spouses/guests is $80.00, which includes the reception and banquet. The dress code for the conference is casual; dress
code for the banquet is business attire. Please register online by contacting us via email: email@example.com.
ACCOMODATIONS: NCPJ has reserved a very reasonable room rate of $200.00 per night. The rates are offered 3 days before and after the meeting dates, subject to availability. The cutoff date to make reservations is October 16th, but you are strongly encouraged to make your reservations before then, as it is very likely the NCPJ room block will fill. Once you register for the conference you will receive a
confirmation including a link to reserve your hotel room.
TRANSPORTATION: There are multiple airports close to Destin where numerous transportation services are available:
• Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport
• Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport in Panama City
• Pensacola International Airport
However, you may want to rent a car while in Destin so you can explore the beautiful areas. You may also contact the Henderson Beach Resort and Spa for availability of their local transportation services.
ACTIVITIES: We have organized a FREE optional tour of the nationally acclaimed US Naval Aviation Museum on Wednesday, November 16 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Be prepared to complete a security information form prior to the tour and have photo identification available. Naval Museum Information
The 50th Annual NCPJ Golf Outing is Thursday, November 17, 2022 at the Regatta Bay Course. Tee times will start at 1:00 p.m. If you are interested in attending, you may register for this event online when you register for the conference. The cost is $115.00.
OTHER ACTIVITIES: The Henderson Beach Resort location provides a variety of places to explore and enjoy their beautiful weather. Bike rentals, which are included with the daily resort fee, are available from 8 am to 5 pm daily. Or, spend some time pool side. Paddle board and kayak rentals are also available from the resort on a first come, first serve basis. Along with the Destin Fishing Museum and aquatic adventures, Destin also offers an extensive number of places to shop, including Grand Boulevard Shopping, Silver Sands Premium Outlet Shopping and Destin Commons Shopping. There are many events scheduled through the Henderson Beach resort through the conference period as well.
